I'm back! After the Holiday break and a very long time of not caring to post, I think It's high time and the right time to share some of the blessings I got and "have"...
As most married couples experience, the husband or the wife usually has problems dealing with their Father or Mother-in-Law(Or so I hear.. Is this True?). The spouse needs time to get-to-know the parents of their partner.. And the cliche "First Impressions" really do hold true.. Sometimes you "click"(get along)-(for those who are slow) with both of them or none at all, or sometimes you click with one of them.. And to be honest(it's the new year after all)(start the new year right-so they say) I clicked with both of them..
But (hehehe here we go with the "buts")due to First Impressions and what we hear from other mouths, I clicked with one of my In-Laws immediately but ultimately clicked with the other when the dust settled.. And I could never thank her enough for the support she has given us(Me & Wifey). (hmmm her? she? well I guess it's no secret now heheheeheh). Thanks again Mom... And of course, thanks Dad.. You made me feel at home and made me feel welcomed.. "This is one of the greatest blessings that I realized this year".. And of course, how could I forget Wifey's Aunt(Mom-in-law's sis) and Uncle and their family, which I literally got close too..
GOING BACK TO MY TITLE... (*EXCITED MODE*)
Guess what my favorite In Law just gave me?
TANTANAAAAANNNNNN!(*suspense mode*)(drum roll please)
Heheheeh prolonging the agony...
If you could remember my previous post Frustrated Rockstar If ever you read it... well I may not be frustrated no more...
Here goes!!!!A brand new electric guitar! Complete with amps and the "works"... This would be my second electric guitar, the first which I disposed off was a secondhand unit that I bought with my saved college allowance.. Now I have two (2) guitars. this new one and a ProMartin Acoustic guitar. ROCK ON!!!! Frustrated Rockstar no more indeed!!!! Being a Rockstar is just a state of mind! I may not have the other benefits that come with it (fame, fortune, "groupies" boss?) heheeh but deep inside I still feel Like One!!!
What enters your mind first when you read or see this "THREE STARS AND A SUN!"?
For some it may mean nothing.. But for others it would mean "Patriotism".. And you would ask Why? If you are a Filipino and reading this and asking why, well woe on you... Maybe you forgot the THREE STARS AND A SUN on your National Flag...
Here's a Picture in case you forgot...
The Picture you see at the start of this article shows me wearing a T-Shirt with the symbols of three Stars and a Sun... I was actually fortunate enough to acquire from one of my friend's friend who recently went to Manila (the Capital of the Philippines), this t-shirt line was actually thought of by a Local Artist of the Philippines, a Rap Icon in the 80's, Francis Magalona, Francism or Francis M. is the nick that he is more popularly known.. As I've heard from the news, he is battling Leukemia right now... You could check more or his designs at this site.
He also wrote and sang/rapped a song Three Stars and a Sun...
Patriotism for Sale anyone?
"Tumingin ka sa Pinanggalingan at ikaw ay makakarating sa Paroroonan!"
You can never deny who you are and where you came from! Change your hair color, bleach your skin, cosmetics, surgery?
I know of some who are not proud of their grass-roots.. I can't blame them, and I won't try to change their views... They Immediately Rush to admitting to being a Filipino when Manny Pacquiao, Efren "Bata" Reyes wins or when Arnel Pineda performs!
Bottomline, Be proud of Who You Are.. If You're not, then who are you? You would'nt have any Identity... You would'nt belong... You would be the unknown sitting at the corner at the High School Reunion, while others are rubbing elbows, having fun "Barrio Barrio" but at least they belong, and they pass by you as if you don't exist...
Hmmmmm Time to "walk the talk"... And I'm starting with the Man in the Mirror... I have a really bad vice, and that is smoking! I've tasted my very first stick of cigarette when I was in Grade School ( Grade VI to be exact)... My Second stick was when I was in College... It has been on and off until I enrolled in Law School where I got hooked... There's no question about it, I'm Hooked... But I do smoke ethically (excuse? justification? nah, just hear me out), I don't smoke in front of my Parents (they do know I smoke), When I was living with my Parents I don't smoke inside the house... I don't smoke in other people's homes, unless they are smoking too... I don't smoke when there's a Baby or a Pregnant Woman near me.. Or when the people I'm talking to don't smoke I don't smoke.. I don't really have urges.. I don't go out in the middle of the night to light a cigarette.. Or stop what I am doing just to get a nicotine fix.. But I do smoke, theres no question about it and I'm not denying it.. I do know the ill-effects of smoking and as much as I want to QUIT, I can't... But I think I WILL! I think I smoke because I am insecure.. I smoke just to be able to fit in with the smokers.. And I thought smoking was cool! Well it was sort of a form of REBELLION.. But I realize I'm only damaging myself.. There was a time when I didn't smoke.. When I was in High School I didn't smoke.. I was an athlete..(so I say) I played soccer football, but when I quit playing when I was in 2nd Year College I started picking up this bad habit.. It was occasional though.. I only smoked when I was out drinking with friends..
Present... Now I smoke at least 6-12 sticks a day.. (I think) and more when I'm out drinking.. Since wifey is away (I'm not blaming her, this is all me), I have all the time on my hands which lead me to light up.. I need to quit now! When I think I still can.. I don't really see any benefit of continuing this bad habit.. It needs a lot of SELF-DISCIPLINE.. Which I think I don't have.. Realizing that this is a bad habit is a step though, and when you know its bad for you there's a tendency to shun away from it..
Let me just take it a day at a time.. Baby steps so they say.. And I just did the First Step, Realizing I don't Need this Habit, I can Live without this Habit.. Realization I think is the first step.. The next step would be finding ways/methods to facilitate the kicking of this Habit.. Wish wifey was beside me to guide/help me through this.. I've heard that withdrawal symptoms include Irritability, Cough and Colds, hmm I don't know what else..
I'm not talking 'bout Michael Jordan.. I'm talking 'bout Michael Jackson...
Being alone does a lot of things to a man ( or woman).. And for me one thing it does is make me emotional... When you are alone you get to do a lot of thinking (reflecting) and listening to music doesn't help... Well one song got inside my head and it really (literally) brought me to tears and a moment of reflection... When we're alone we usually try to find something to do and sometimes it's not worthwhile.. Some revert to "escapism", alcohol and all other sort of vices.. My advice is to communicate... talk to your love ones... having a close-knit family does help.. Talk to your Parents, to your siblings... It works for me... some problems are best not faced alone...
Here's a song you can digest, it would be good for your heart and soul...
God Bless and rock on!!!!!

Posting Frenzy? Not really.. I am just really inspired by the comment my Mother-in-Law made on my last post (Blast from the Past: Megadeth: Countdown to Extinction, LINK HERE BOSS PLEASE. ONE OF THESE DAYS I NEED YOU TO TELL ME HOW TO link added...and yes, I need to teach you how hehehehe).
And everybody knows it's easy to impress or "WOW" your wife, but to be given the "praise" my Mom-in-Law gave me... Man that's something (THANKS A LOT MOM!)... Very few Son-in-Laws get that kind of compliment from their Mom-in-Law's.. Naturally my (everyone's) biological Mother would give that kind of acclaim! (MYMP: Make Your Mama Proud)
Hopefully this impresses her more.. (I know we share the passion for 60's, 70's & 80's music, and maybe I would be able to carve-up some songs/bands that we share a liking to). But right now I'm in the mood for underrated 80's Heavy Metal Bands with great lyrics and tunes...
So here goes nothing!
"Poison" is an 80's heavy metal band that is only known by few.. Although we always hear this song "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" on the Radio, very few people really know the artist behind this ballad. More about "Poison" here.
The band has a multitude of songs to boast about.. (read here) But I recommend you listen to "I wont Forget You"- a love song, "Something to Believe In"- a song about a Vietnam vet who lost everything when he got home (his family) and how society is unfair with the very few rich and lots in impoverish state, "Fallen Angel"- a song about a small-town girl who was blinded by the bright lights of the City and went to the City only to be disappointed and was exploited..
I recommend "Something to Believe In"-- it would really renew your "Faith" in your God (the Man above) and open your eyes to the dirt of society (economic-problem? I don't think so.. only the lower class is affected)... I also recommend you listen to it with the lyrics on hand...
Going back to "Every Rose Has It's Thorn"... This song tales of someone loosing the love of his life and he hasn't gotten over her, and to learn later on she wasn't really into him... And the allegory or the metaphor of a "Love" to a "Rose" having thorns is a masterpiece (at least I think so)... Thorns here referring to pain... "Like a knife that cuts you the wound heals, but the scar remains"(clearly talking about love being the knife too (love being bittersweet?)... We sometimes get hurt by the ones we love and though we forgive them the pain is still there (anybody who can't relate to this?). Clearly Love brings about mixed emotions and mixed feelings..
But there is a little hope as I see it since it goes.. "every night has it's dawn"... (Album: Flesh and Blood---and the album cover is a tattoo--noticed that?). Anyways, let me just let you make your own interpretation and appraisal of this classic ballad...
Rock on!!!
Poison: Every Rose Has It's Thorn Songwriters: Deville, C C; Dall, B; Michaels, B; Rockett, R;
We both lie silently still in the dead of the night Although we both lie close together We feel miles apart inside Was it somethin' I said or somethin' I did Did my words not come out right Tho' I tried not to hurt you Tho' I tried But I guess that's why they say
Every rose has it's thorn Just like every night has it's dawn Just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song Every rose has it's thorn
Yeah it does
I listen to your favorite song playin' on the radio Hear the DJ say love's a game of Easy come and easy go But I wonder does he know Has it ever felt like this And I know that you'd be here right now If I could have let you know somehow I guess
Every rose has it's thorn Just like every night has it's dawn Just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song Every rose has it's thorn
Though it's been a while now I can still feel so much pain Like the knife that cuts you The wound heals, but the scar, that scar remains
I know I could have saved our love that night If I'd known what to say Instead if making love We both made our separate ways
Now I hear you've found somebody new And that I never meant that much to you To hear that tears me up inside And to see you cuts me like a knife, I guess
Every rose has it's thorn Just like every night has it's dawn Just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song Every rose has it's thorn.
I am really a heavy metal fan... well more or less a fan of all kinds of music... bottom line isi make it a point never to criticize anything (music that is) that has been recorded.. True there are some songs that I don't like (well who doesn't) but putting into consideration the effort the artist has put into the song to create the lyrics and and the harmony, the riffs etc... and to think it has been recorded for sale to the public... even though some don't really get the airplay they deserve or don't deserve.. but what i think is that when a musical piece has been replayed over and over on the radio or in any other form of media exposure that song becomes popular... no matter how stupid the lyrics or the tune is... thats a fact (anyone dare contest that).
Well being a frustrated rockstar (link supposed to be here, boss can you take care of this? taken cared of hehehehehe), i have been exposed to lots of influences.. and heavy metal is one of them.. some may think it's only gibberish.. it's noise and purely nonsense, well let me prove them wrong.. Some of the best lyrics were written by heavy metal artists.. You should listen to heavy metal love songs.. You could really relate to the lyrics..(more on this next time)..
Right now let me introduce you to Megadeth, i aint getting paid to write this but very few people heard their songs... and man they are clearly underrated particularly on their poetry (songwriting) let's take for example the song I am featuring here.. "Countdown to Extinction" by "Megadeth", just hearing the artist's name will repulse the faint-hearted but give me a chance to defend them.. hear me out.. hear them out..
This song is about animal species being wiped out by mankind.. Who would have thought a heavy metal band would sing about the environment.. well listening is believing.. hopefully boss will place a link here or whatever so you could here the song (i'm still a newbie at this).. My advice is to read the lyrics as the song is played.. I have made a convert out of boss and hopefully YOU! The lyrics are clearly sensible and without a doubt much better than most lyrics of newly formed bands.. There's more to the shunned heavy metal, long haired, tattered clothed, head banging "metals". Stereotyping has placed them as alcoholics, addicts and no-good citizens of society... Well most of them are indeed wrung with vices but who doesnt want to live like a "rockstar"... Fame and Fortune!
I'm not in a posting mood right now... with the effects of alcohol still lurking in my veins and in my hypothalamus.. but I'm pretty bored with wifey far away so I would like to share this picture I took with my phone.. this post is just outside the window of wifey's house and whooahhh is that a cat? heheheh Shine, Sly and Raven chased this cat up this post the night before.. and when I woke up the cat was still there with the dogs still watching her below.. I'm pretty sure the cat did'nt sleep a wink heheheh but if you look at the picture more closely you'd see a bird on the electrical wire looking on at the cat... you could only guess what is on the mind of this bird... not to mention the cat... hahahah
It's Sunday morning here in the Philippines... 9:51 am... before I wrote this I read your blog again boss... and believe it or not I cried.. tears didn't just flow... I was crying out loud... good thing shine was (is) here to comfort me... she stood up.. I really don't know why... wagged her tail and looked up at me, placed her head on my knee... that was enough to bring me back to the precious moments we share together boss... people seldom see me cry... but most of my close friends, my love ones, the public, saw me cry on our wedding day... and I was even teased by your cousins and naturally defending myself told them something was in my eye... but both of us know the truth... the reason for those tears... and I cried again today... maybe I'm emotional when I'm tired (today being the aftermath of the party) nevertheless I still cried... today is my birthday but I opted to celebrate it with friends and family yesterday (Saturday, 09-27-2008)... today, I'm planning to spend the day alone, maybe on the phone with you boss... and later a trip to the church to thank God for giving me the best year of my life since (hoping for more to come)...
But before I forget I would like to thank my friends who graced my party with their presence.. and of course my family... To Boss's Dad (also my Dad now since were married heheeh) for taking the time off to be here and of course to my Mother-in-Law, Mom Eve... To Ma Sae and Pa Roy... To my Pa and Ma( thanks a lot... I love You)... and to my Bro-in-Law who did all the cooking (including the nice presentation)... and to Ate Pearl... Thanks a lot 'Te.. I'm so blessed to be have this family... (I'm not ashamed to say it but I'm crying right now)...
And to you boss... Thank you very much... I'm confessing my Love to you again today and shouting it out to the whole world... Most couples only get the chance to confess their love publicly on their wedding day.
Anyways, before anything gets in my eye again hehehe.. I promised boss pictures of the food... I may not be the best photographer but here goes... hopefully boss will edit and arrange the pics... I love you boss.. you and no other...
Taking over the world!! Well not literally! But even though we had a dismaying display in the current "Beijing Olympics" I'm still proud to call myself a "Filipino".
Yes we do have our share of "Bad Seeds" but now we are proud that we also share the spotlight with some of the BIG stars in sports, music etc..
Maybe there have been lots of blogs about these guys but I'm still taking the time to write this down. For "Added Emphasis" so they say! Wifey said Mom-in-Law's word's were "taking over everywhere", actually my inspiration to write this blog!!!
Let's start with "Arnel Pineda" the new vocalist of "Journey," a band who rose to fame in the 80's. If you haven't heard the new Journey with Arnel as front man singing their classic hits you're missing half of your life!
Still regarding music, have you heard of Charice Pempengco? This kid has shocked lots of people with her voice. Actually I've only heard a few, but man, it brought goosebumps to places I couldn't imagine.
And who could forget "Efren The Magician Reyes." Well I guess only pool fans could recognize this this guy.
And the Almighty Manny Pacquiao. A household name in the Philippines and every boxing fan all over the world. If Manny retires in the next few years who could guess if he pursues his singing career he would be as famous as the King of Pop (if his vocals cords are not damaged by his stints in the ring hahaha).
I've also heard that Filipino Cooks are also taking over. Would you know that the Cook in the White House and the Beijing Olympics have Filipino roots? You can correct me if I'm wrong don't want to be the start of this rumor! hahaha!
Who would know, 5 years from now I'd be famous and you'll be proud to say I read the blog of this guy!! hahahahaha
I think everyone knows Homer Simpson. Cool guy, meaning: Lazy, Stupid, Insensitive, Naive, Bad role model, and did i say STUPID? But his antics have lead to the longest running animation series on television. Not to mention the well-brought-up Bart Simpson. (Do I smell sarcasm here?) These bunch of guys are really not your average family. Or are they? Well I think they are! Minus the exaggerations of animation they clearly depict an average family. They are even better than others if I should say! (if you dare to question this just leave a message, I'd be happy to elaborate).
But why do people watch this show? Do they want to compare their family with this Stupid family? That they are living a better life than the Simpsons? Or they just want to be entertained? Think of a REASON why someone watches this show? If you know someone who does, please ask him/her.
I think (if my opinion matters to you) that people watch this show because they relate to the different characters. Homer: the regular Dad, sometimes jobless, watches TV with a beer in hand, goes to a BAR (Moe's) with friends, did i mention Stupid? Marge: typical housewife, concerned about the kids, nags homer, and more or less has a good head on her shoulders Bart: who wouldn't want to be Bart! Does everything he wants, bully's his sister, don't you wish you could every prank in the book to anyone you want? Lisa: smart kid, has all the answers, underrated, I'd want to be this character, wouldn't it be awkward if Bart and Lisa changed roles? and Maggie: cute kid. (What? That's all i can say)
Homer the safety Inspector at the Springfield Nuclear Power plant doesn't know a thing about safety. And the gags and bloopers you see are typical in any family.
But the good things is, whatever mishaps, it always has a happy ending. It's just animation you say? Well you learn a lot from this guys, they stick it through thick and thin, after all the problems they have( which a typical family usually have). But they are still together. And generally a VERY HAPPY FAMILY!!
Maybe you haven't thought about it! Wouldn't you like to have that kind of Family? Don't you envy their Family?
That's me! A "frustrated rock star"!! Well who isn't a frustrated "something"? Frustrated Basketball player, etc, etc... Tell me if you haven't thought before being someone who you are not right now? Did you imagine yourself being a Doctor? Lawyer? President of a country? Professional basketball player like Kobe or LeBron getting paid in millions of Dollars? Why do we always want to be someone else?
Naturally you would want to be someone who is "popular", "rich" and envied by others. But did you ever meet someone who wanted to be a farmer? A mechanic? Or even a waitress? A "promo" girl/boy? Or did you ever dream/wish that you would become a hooker. 100% no one would wish/want to be a loser.
Let me try to justify why we have farmers, mechanics, blue collared jobs, the "handy man".
Let me compare it to the human body, what is the most important part of your body? Logic tells us everything does its part. Where would we get our veggies/rice (rice shortage in the Phils, so they say) if we have no farmers? if we had no tricycle drivers how would we get from point a to point b?
Going back to me, I'm a frustrated rock star, frustrated lawyer, frustrated painter, frustrated writer, (frustrated dad?), frustrated computer engineer, frustrated Billiard player (I lost my second match by the way), (frustrated actor? hahahaah), frustrated football player, so on and so forth.. But I learned a lot from my frustrations, I now know a little of everything I wanted to be (jack of all trades?). And it made me what I am today.
Well if you should know, I played varsity soccer in high school, didn't make it in college (bench warmer). Failed the Bar Exams once in 2001, wasn't able to paint a single painting (I think)(I cant remember), had a short stint with a band in college as a bass player(I was able to perform live during the SU founder's day, played acoustic in Woodward little theatre, played in Hibbard with my buddy Bernard Catindig, and played acoustic guitar in the Luce Auditorium in front of a the whole college of business administration) and lately in the Company with which I am affiliated with on their 32nd anniversary.
Well whose frustrated? I'm not.. Be happy with what you've got.. Be thankful with what you've got..
Efren "bata" Reyes. Another Filipino Icon who has made it big in the international scene. Billiards fans anyone?
I'm at work right now so this will be short. When he started in the International scene before he was given many nicknames( as I've seen on a television show) namely (as i can remember) "the man from outer space" "the magician" "Cesar Morales" "Bata" (tagalog for "Kid") and many more.. Message me please if you could give me the other monickers. I forgot the other ones. Could be the booze and the *tooot* again.
Well anyways i will be playing in a "sort-of" tournament this weekend, against other Barangay Officials of the City of Dumaguete.. Wish me luck.
P.S. I'm still trying to get the hang of this so watch out when I reveal the juicy stuff. To be continued.. (In Tagalog.. Abangan ang susunod na kabanata.. tantararan taran)
Well, Manny Pacquiao did it again. He "pacquiaod" (pakyawed) four (4) belts in four divisions. Hurray for him. What could Diaz have in his punch-oggled-brain of his? Using his face to shield Manny pacquiaos punches. Just goes to show filipinos are not all as bad as they think. We have our share of Talents and Untalented.
We still have to see Pacquiao meeting his match! That would come. But now, all Filipinos, bask in the glory that Pacquiao has brought you.
My Signature should be here. (Boss? Could you make me one?)
Where do we go from here? Have you ever asked yourself this question? After everything you've done and been through, what next? You've done this and done that, you are where you are right now, what next? Is that all there is to life? Have a job, kids. Is that all? Have you ever wanted more? Feel like something is lacking? But you just don't know what it is. What is the reason why you are in this world? To be a doctor? Lawyer? Nurse? Are you living right now to please your Parents? Neighbors? The Community? Or you should live life as you want , without a care, only to please yourself. Are you living your life to the fullest?
Ehhhheeeeeem!
This is my first time blogging and I couldn't think of anything smart to say or talk about. After the more than a few bottles in college (daily) and the *toot* (this is my my of censoring. hehehe) I think my brain cells have been damaged enough for me to be able to think of a topic right away. anyways just go over paragraph one (1) and think about it. Are you contented? Are you happy? This is deep. It even got me to pause and think. Is there really more to life? Life after Death? We've heard these questions before, but have we really thought about it.
Think about it! Reflect!
P.S. (a.k.a WARNING) I will be airing my side and we'll see what really happened. Hmmm I smell a war brewing here. Battle of the sexes so they say..
