Music Mania: Lightning Crashes by Live

I'm not much of an alternative or rock fan, mind you. But I swear I grew up in the wrong generation! Oh sure, I had my Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls year but I now cringe at the thought of loving them at all.

I'm not saying they're not good at all! Heck, I enjoyed them way back when but I swear once I was educated to the finer arts of alternative, rock, and heavy metal, all these "boy bands" and "girl bands" paled in comparison to the real bands!

Aw, I haven't actually turned into a black clothing rocker chick with heavy eyeliner but I have already begun to appreciate their songs. I guess it's because their poetry is so unique and it speaks right to the heart. They might not look like much (I beg to differ, though) with all their hair and ratty clothes but man can they sing! Today though, some of these guys are H-O-T (they're second to you Boss).

When I read Pyertubs' post, I immediately remembered the song Lightning Crashes by Live. This was one of the first songs that I fell in love with and I have to credit Pyertubs on that one. I was busy renaming and arranging all our songs (yes, all our songs where stored in my lappy and he just synced his pod with my lappy) I came across the band Live and started listening to their songs.

I know Pyertubs remembers how much I loved this song and we even talked about what the song means. He's one who really loves to dissect a song and analyze it and I have to admit, that makes the song more memorable.

This song is a bit confusing though but it does have a deeper meaning. To sum it all up, it basically means that in the midst of death and sorrow, happiness will always shine through. Well, I'll leave the rest to your imagination!

Lightning Crashes
by Live

lightning crashes, a new mother cries
her placenta falls to the floor
the angel opens her eyes
the confusion sets in
before the doctor can even close the door

lightning crashes, an old mother dies
her intentions fall to the floor
the angel closes her eyes
the confusion that was hers
belongs now, to the baby down the hall

oh now feel it comin' back again
like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it.

lightning crashes, a new mother cries
this moment she's been waiting for
the angel opens her eyes
pale blue colored iris,
presents the circle
and puts the glory out to hide, hide

MUSIC MANIA: BLAST FROM THE PAST! Poison: Every Rose Has It's Thorn.

Posting Frenzy? Not really.. I am just really inspired by the comment my Mother-in-Law made on my last post (Blast from the Past: Megadeth: Countdown to Extinction, LINK HERE BOSS PLEASE. ONE OF THESE DAYS I NEED YOU TO TELL ME HOW TO link added...and yes, I need to teach you how hehehehe).

And everybody knows it's easy to impress or "WOW" your wife, but to be given the "praise" my Mom-in-Law gave me... Man that's something (THANKS A LOT MOM!)... Very few Son-in-Laws get that kind of compliment from their Mom-in-Law's.. Naturally my (everyone's) biological Mother would give that kind of acclaim! (MYMP: Make Your Mama Proud)

Hopefully this impresses her more.. (I know we share the passion for 60's, 70's & 80's music, and maybe I would be able to carve-up some songs/bands that we share a liking to). But right now I'm in the mood for underrated 80's Heavy Metal Bands with great lyrics and tunes...

So here goes nothing!

"Poison" is an 80's heavy metal band that is only known by few.. Although we always hear this song "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" on the Radio, very few people really know the artist behind this ballad. More about "Poison" here.

The band has a multitude of songs to boast about.. (read here) But I recommend you listen to "I wont Forget You"- a love song, "Something to Believe In"- a song about a Vietnam vet who lost everything when he got home (his family) and how society is unfair with the very few rich and lots in impoverish state, "Fallen Angel"- a song about a small-town girl who was blinded by the bright lights of the City and went to the City only to be disappointed and was exploited..

I recommend "Something to Believe In"-- it would really renew your "Faith" in your God (the Man above) and open your eyes to the dirt of society (economic-problem? I don't think so.. only the lower class is affected)... I also recommend you listen to it with the lyrics on hand...

Going back to "Every Rose Has It's Thorn"... This song tales of someone loosing the love of his life and he hasn't gotten over her, and to learn later on she wasn't really into him... And the allegory or the metaphor of a "Love" to a "Rose" having thorns is a masterpiece (at least I think so)... Thorns here referring to pain... "Like a knife that cuts you the wound heals, but the scar remains"(clearly talking about love being the knife too (love being bittersweet?)... We sometimes get hurt by the ones we love and though we forgive them the pain is still there (anybody who can't relate to this?). Clearly Love brings about mixed emotions and mixed feelings..

But there is a little hope as I see it since it goes.. "every night has it's dawn"... (Album: Flesh and Blood---and the album cover is a tattoo--noticed that?). Anyways, let me just let you make your own interpretation and appraisal of this classic ballad...

Rock on!!!

Poison: Every Rose Has It's Thorn
Songwriters: Deville, C C; Dall, B; Michaels, B; Rockett, R;

We both lie silently still in the dead of the night
Although we both lie close together
We feel miles apart inside
Was it somethin' I said or somethin' I did
Did my words not come out right
Tho' I tried not to hurt you
Tho' I tried
But I guess that's why they say

Every rose has it's thorn
Just like every night has it's dawn
Just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song
Every rose has it's thorn

Yeah it does

I listen to your favorite song playin' on the radio
Hear the DJ say love's a game of
Easy come and easy go
But I wonder does he know
Has it ever felt like this
And I know that you'd be here right now
If I could have let you know somehow I guess

Every rose has it's thorn
Just like every night has it's dawn
Just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song
Every rose has it's thorn

Though it's been a while now
I can still feel so much pain
Like the knife that cuts you
The wound heals, but the scar, that scar remains

I know I could have saved our love that night
If I'd known what to say
Instead if making love
We both made our separate ways

Now I hear you've found somebody new
And that I never meant that much to you
To hear that tears me up inside
And to see you cuts me like a knife, I guess

Every rose has it's thorn
Just like every night has it's dawn
Just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song
Every rose has it's thorn.

MUSIC MANIA: BLAST FROM THE PAST! Megadeth:Countdown to Extinction

I am really a heavy metal fan... well more or less a fan of all kinds of music... bottom line is i make it a point never to criticize anything (music that is) that has been recorded.. True there are some songs that I don't like (well who doesn't) but putting into consideration the effort the artist has put into the song to create the lyrics and and the harmony, the riffs etc... and to think it has been recorded for sale to the public... even though some don't really get the airplay they deserve or don't deserve.. but what i think is that when a musical piece has been replayed over and over on the radio or in any other form of media exposure that song becomes popular... no matter how stupid the lyrics or the tune is... thats a fact (anyone dare contest that).

Well being a frustrated rockstar (link supposed to be here, boss can you take care of this? taken cared of hehehehehe), i have been exposed to lots of influences.. and heavy metal is one of them.. some may think it's only gibberish.. it's noise and purely nonsense, well let me prove them wrong.. Some of the best lyrics were written by heavy metal artists.. You should listen to heavy metal love songs.. You could really relate to the lyrics..(more on this next time)..

Right now let me introduce you to Megadeth, i aint getting paid to write this but very few people heard their songs... and man they are clearly underrated particularly on their poetry (songwriting) let's take for example the song I am featuring here.. "Countdown to Extinction" by "Megadeth", just hearing the artist's name will repulse the faint-hearted but give me a chance to defend them.. hear me out.. hear them out..

This song is about animal species being wiped out by mankind.. Who would have thought a heavy metal band would sing about the environment.. well listening is believing.. hopefully boss will place a link here or whatever so you could here the song (i'm still a newbie at this).. My advice is to read the lyrics as the song is played.. I have made a convert out of boss and hopefully YOU! The lyrics are clearly sensible and without a doubt much better than most lyrics of newly formed bands.. There's more to the shunned heavy metal, long haired, tattered clothed, head banging "metals". Stereotyping has placed them as alcoholics, addicts and no-good citizens of society... Well most of them are indeed wrung with vices but who doesnt want to live like a "rockstar"... Fame and Fortune!

So here goes... Rock on!

Countdown To Extinction lyrics
(Dave Mustaine/Nick Menza/David Ellefson/Marty Friedman)

Endangered species caged in fright

Shot in cold blood, no chance to fight

The stage is set, now pay the price

An ego boost, don't think twice

Technology, the battle's unfair

You pull the hammer without a care

Squeeze the trigger that makes you Man

Pseudo-safari, the hunt is canned

The hunt is canned

CHORUS

All are gone, all but one

No contest, nowhere to run

No more left, only one

This is it, thisis the countdown to extinction

Tell the truth, you wouldn't dare

The skin and trophy oh so rare

Silence speaks louder than words

Ignore the guilt and take your turn

Liars anagram is "lairs"

Man you were never even there

Killed a few feet from the cages

Point blank, you're so courageous

So courageous

CHORUS

One hour from now

Another species of life form

Will dsiappear off the face of the planet forever

And the rate is accelerating

CHORUS
